Date: 5th Oct 2007
Venue: Marriott Hotel, Gosforth Park
IT was a night of glitz and glamour and it was all in aid of the Sunshine Fund.
On Friday 5th October, more than 400 guests packed into the Marriott Gosforth Park in Newcastle and reached for their wallets at the annual Sunflower Ball to raise thousands of pounds for local disabled children.
TV’s Pam Royle, Jonathan Morrell and Carol Malia, turned out the for event, which was also attended by paralympian gold medalist and world record holder, Stephen Miller.
Sunshine Fund manager Jo Harris said the night went extremely well.
“This year’s event has been fantastic and everyone has really enjoyed themselves while raising over thirty five thousand pounds for the Sunshine Fund,” she said.
“Once again this glittering event was a huge success and the money raised will help improve the lives of youngsters in our region who really deserve our support.”
The night was sponsored by chartered surveyor and property consultant Sanderson Wetherall and the Northern 4x4 centre who are opening a new dealership in the North East.
It was also supported by hundreds of local businesses, who donated prizes for the tombola and 'instant win' Sunflowers as well as the raffle and auction.
Thanks to Emirates, Le Royal Meridian Beach Resort and Spa, and Gulf Ventures, we were able to raise thousands of pounds by auctioning a luxury holiday to Dubai.
Unique auction items were also generously provided by Oldfields, Crutes La Mar, Duncan Fisher from Apartment Bar Group, Newcastle United Football in the Community, ITPS, The Northern 4x4 Centre, The Trout Hotel, Century FM, Ant and Dec and Jet2.com.
Geordie favourites Ant and Dec also sent a video message championing the fund’s good work and urging people to give generously. The ball’s guests also enjoyed entertainment from a fun casino with free gaming chips, a palm reader, magicians, a disco, and live entertainment was provided by Head to Head.
This year's ball was a sell out, and we have been told that it is fast becoming one of the north east's most talked about events of the year!
