Date: Wednesday 14th November 2007
Venue: Marriott Hotel, Gosforth Park
The evening, held at the Marriott Hotel, Gosforth Park in November 2007, saw the regions’ sporting celebrities team up with local companies in an effort to become the evening’s winners.
Newcastle players Robbie Elliot, Peter Ramage and Steve Harper as well as former boxer Billy Hardy, Paralympian Gold medallist Stephen Miller and a whole host of other stars of the past and present put their sports knowledge to the test. Compere and quiz master for the evening was former Bayern Munich, Celtic and Aston Villa player, Alan McInally.
Prizes with sporting themes were up for grabs in the raffle and the auction. Thanks to Alpine Escape Ski, guests were able to bid for a week’s skiing holiday in France, complete with Jet2.com flights and O’Neill outfits. ITPS donated the use of their executive box at Newcastle United, Pete Graves of Century FM auctioned off the opportunity to join him in the commentary box, and npower donated a signed cricket bat from the England v West Indies game.
Companies from across the North East, including the event sponsors, Hummer Newcastle and the Northern 4x4 Centre, were tested over a number of sporting rounds. Last year’s winners, Watson Burton were unable to retain their title, and had to hand the trophy over to Storeys:ssp. They were very closely followed in second place by the Royal Bank of Scotland, and the Evening Chronicle team finished a very respectable joint third with Watson Burton.
