Newcastle Santa Run

Date: Saturday 8th December 2007
Venue: Exhibition Park, Newcastle upon Tyne
It was a chilly morning, on Saturday 8th December, but that didn’t stop eager fundraisers from pulling on their santa suits, buckling their belts and adjusting their beards, all in preparation to run, jog or walk the 4k route around Exhibition park and the Town Moor.
Century FM breakfast show presenter Ben Weston, and ITV North East Tonight presenters Jonathan Morrell and Philippa Tomson were involved on the day.
Century FM marketing controller Andy Saxton said: “Century FM are proud to co-host the 2007 Santa Run with the Evening Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund.
We were overjoyed with the number of people that took part last year, but this year we nearly doubled the runners and the amount of sponsorship money we raised for both the Sunshine Fund, and Century’s official charity Macmillan Cancer Support.”
Northumbrian Water kindly donated bottles of water which were given out to thirsty Santas at the end of the run.
Northumbrian Water’s Cara Hall said: “We are very pleased to contribute to the fun run which is going to raise such vital funds. It is important that we drink enough water while doing exercise – this improves performances.”
Everyone that took part got to keep their suits, and were given flashing Santa badges as a memento of the day!
