The Evening Chronicle Sunshine Fund would like to congratulate the 2008 North East Chef of the Year, Parachit Somsby-Kirby, head chef at Cafe 21, Fenwick

Chefs from the region endured two days of gruelling challenges, culminating in the preparation of a full three-course meal in two hours, in order to be crowned the winner.

The competition, as well as a number of exhibitions, took place on 21st and 22nd May, and the charity dinner to end the competition was held at the Marriott Gosforth Park on the evening of the 22nd.

The amount raised on the evening is still to be confirmed, but the organisers were keen to beat last year's total of £2,400.
