RUNNERS CAN BRING A LOT OF SUNSHINE
20 May 2010
GENEROUS fundraisers are being urged to put their best foot forward in aid of the Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund. The charity, which raises money to provide life-changing equipment to disabled and seriously ill children in the North East, has a limited number of places left for this year’s Great North Run.
We are appealing for people to take part in the challenge to help make a massive difference to the lives of disadvantaged youngsters in the region.
Fundraiser Debbie Wilde said: “The Sunshine Fund has a limited number of spaces left in the Great North Run but we are very keen to get these filled.
“If you are interested in participating in the run this year and would like to help raise money for children in the North East please call us for an entry form.”
A £45 administration fee applies and participants are asked to pledge to raise £300 in sponsorship.
All money raised will go towards to the Sunshine Fund, a charity set up to raise money for children with learning and physical disabilities up to the age of 18.
So far the fund has raised over £1m to provide learning aids and custom-built apparatus to improve the quality of children's lives across the region.
Equipment provided by the fund includes trikes, sensory equipment, hoists and specialist beds, as well as sports equipment, electric wheelchairs and garden play equipment.
In return for taking part in this year’s Bupa Great North Run on behalf on the Sunshine Fund, the charity will support runners with training and fundraising tips and provide a Sunshine Fund vest for on the day.
Meanwhile, a mystery donor has shocked staff after posting a £1,000 cash bundle to the Fund, which was received on Tuesday.
Debbie added: “We would also like to thank our anonymous donator who very kindly donated £1,000 cash to the Sunshine Fund on Tuesday morning.
“Without your help we would not be able to support young children with disabilities in the North East.”
