Trike sparks smiles
Alisha Robinson is delighted with her new trike. Four-year-old Alisha , of Oakdale Terrace, Chester-le-Street, suffers Kabuki Syndrome, visual and hearing impairment and low muscle tone.
Her mum, Lynne Harrison, 33, applied to the Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund for the trike, and says Alisha is a lot happier now.
Lynne, who is a teacher at Thomas Bewick School, in Newcastle, said: “ Alisha loves the trike. It has given her a new lease of life as it is a different way for her to get around instead of being stuck in a wheelchair. “It also helps her build her muscle tone which is very low and means she gets tired easily.
“She can crawl but outside she is confined to a wheelchair and she is getting a little bit too heavy for me to carry her now.”
The trike was funded by a donation from Newcastle-based Graphite Resources, who decided to raise money for a local charity rather than buy Christmas cards for their colleagues. They raised £800 for the Sunshine Fund which went towards Alisha ’s new trike. Chief financial officer David Young said: “We are thrilled to be able to help in this way. “We are delighted to help and hope Alisha continues to enjoy the trike. We all have families and understand how important it is for children to be happy and get as much out of life as possible. As a company we want to make a difference to people and we are pleased to have been able to do that.”
