Beauties bring a little Sunshine

Catwalk contest will help our sick youngsters
BIKINI-CLAD beauties will take to the catwalk in a bid to impress judges as they fight to be crowned this year’s Miss Newcastle . But the stunning contestants will need more than just a pretty face when they are grilled with questions from the judging panel. And this year the gorgeous Geordies are not only strutting their stuff in a hope to become Miss England.
With a sell-out evening on May 8 at The Marriot Hotel, in Gosforth Park, Newcastle , and a host of entertainment, all proceeds will benefit the Sunshine Fund charity. The fund provides equipment that makes a significant improvement to the lives of disabled and seriously ill children in the North East, for which funding is not easily available from other sources.
The winner of the Miss Newcastle title will be entered into the semi-finals for Miss England and if successful will go on to the Grand Final.
Tyne Tees Models in association with Nu-Age Medical Spa are organising the event, which will see the models wear lingerie, evening wear and bikinis.
Hosted by Century FM’s Judy McCourt and Simon Robertson from One Voice Production, the entertainment, which includes a fashion show, will be provided by jazz band Jason Isaacs.
Taking their seats on the all-important judging panel will be Miss England 2007 Georgia Horsley and Britain’s Next Top Model Lucy Radcliffe. Joining them will be David Bennison, director of Nu-Age Medical Spa, the sponsors of the show.
This year’s costumes, which include elegant evening dresses and sexy swimwear, have been designed by fashion students at Newcastle College.
Lesley Lister, of Tyne Tees Models, said: “This year we wanted to do the competition for charity instead of a business perspective.
“We had all heard of the Sunshine Fund and about the amazing work they do for sick and disabled children, and we couldn’t think of a better cause.
“We are getting really excited about the night as it should be a lot of fun – it’s really a night for the ladies.”
Sunshine Fund manager Jo Harris added: “The Miss Newcastle event will be a great night out and a marvellous fundraiser for the Sunshine Fund. We are really looking forward to this year’s event.
“Not only will it be an enjoyable evening for all the guests, but it will help raise much-needed funds for sick and disabled children.”
The evening will also include an auction and raffle. For more information, go to www. miss - newcastle .co.uk
