WORKERS TO DON THEIR RED SUITS FOR FESTIVE FUN RUN
SCORES of workers from a water company will be donning red suits and beards for this year’s Santa Run. The festive fun run to raise cash for the Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund and Century Radio’s official charity Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Middlesbrough, sponsored by Northumbrian Water, will take place on Sunday, December 7, at 11am.
Scores of Santas including Northumbrian Water employees will run, jog and walk the 4km route through Exhibition Park and the Town Moor.
Century Radio’s Ben Weston, Scott Makin and Mactaggart will be involved on the day.
Northumbrian Water’s Alison Mosquera said: “We are not just a water company, we are an integral part of our operating area and are committed to improving the quality of life of local communities.“We are delighted to be the corporate sponsor of the third Santa Run which will raise vital funds for two excellent causes. “We will also be refreshing participants with free bottles of tap water because even Santa needs hydrating.”
This year there will be two runs; the main run, which will be timed under the UK Athletics Association and the family run, which will start five minutes later.
Chief executive Mark Guidery, of Zoe’s Place, said: “We are really chuffed people are fundraising for us, especially with all the talk of the economic downturn, we will need as much help as possible. “Zoe’s Place is delighted to be working alongside the Sunshine Fund at this year’s Santa Run.’’
All money raised will be divided between The Sunshine Fund, which helps needy children across the North East, and Zoe’s Place.
Sunshine fund manager Jo Harris said: “This is the third time the Newcastle Santa Run has taken place and we want to thank all the people that have given up their time to help. “This year we are introducing a new aspect to the run to include families and disabled children. We are asking all children to come and take part with an adult and wear Christmas related fancy dress. “I would also like to thank Northumbrian Water for taking part and sponsoring the Santa Run this year. It would be great if we have even more numbers and companies running this year.’’
Entry into the run costs £15 and £2.50 for each accompanying child. Each adult will be sent their own Santa suit to wear on the day.
Families including two adults and two children cost £25 or one adult and one child costs £12.50.
