CHARITY DONATION BOOSTS FOUR-YEAR-OLD’S CONFIDENCE
23 October 2008
Ruby shines on her trike
THERE’S no stopping little Ruby Ruvino now. Ruby was delighted when she received £690 from the Sunshine Fund to buy a new trike.
The four-year-old, of Wallridge Drive, Holywell, North Tyneside, has cerebral palsy and has never been able to push the pedals on a regular bike.
She also finds walking very difficult but now has a new-found freedom.
Mum Lisa, an accounts assistant, who also has daughter Ella, eight, said: “Ruby absolutely loves the trike and she screams with pleasure when she is on it. She is a different little girl now. “She can now join in and play outside with her sister. And now that Ruby can jet about on her trike, she has gained confidence in herself. “The first time that Ruby went riding she said that she now felt the same as other children.”
The 29-year-old continued: “In terms of physio it will definitely help and give Ruby the exercise she needs. “She has amazed herself and is very proud of what she can achieve. Ruby can’t wait for the warmer weather to come so that she can ride to school.”
Jo Harris, Sunshine Fund manager, said: “I am so thrilled that Ruby is getting so much pleasure out of her new trike. It now means that Ruby can join in with her sister and other children and not feel left out. “Ruby’s mum has said that it has made so much difference and Ruby now has her own independence. This is what the Sunshine Fund is all about – enhancing the lives of North East children and really making a difference.”
The Sunshine Fund provides equipment which makes a significant improvement to the lives of children who are either living with disabilities or are seriously ill.
